Introspection

Final Movie

Artist's Statement

Consider luck (random events attributed to chance or fortune) versus destiny (pre-determined and purpose driven events). Meditate on what causes one to look at a situation and determine whether it is luck or destiny.

Intent

This animation was based more on the idea of wanting to do an abstract piece which I think worked out well for the series of animations I am doing. It's about how my mind handled the seperation of my family and abstract is a great way to show and emphasize something you can't actually see.

The Story

The animation is about this manaquin who mentally and physically is going therw changes. You see him have parts blink in and out as the camera slowly pans in towards him. I added sharp short cuts in to give a very awkward feel. Finally at the end he starts to deconstruct for lack of a better term. He finally 'rebuilds' himself but you just see a silhouette of the character which is when he will fade away.

This is an all hand drawn animation at 30 frames per second. The reason for this is because it adds a grunge and a certain sharp edge to the look. The feeling and idea I'm trying to convey is that sometimes you have to tear yourself apart before you can become whole, and it might not always be pretty or easy. Also, it might not lead to the correct ending you had hoped it to. The fade at the end is to give an open ended feeling that each person can put themselves in this mannequin and the final outcome fits everyone because it isn't defined, it can't be, no one is the same.

The color red I decided to add in to continue with the grunge. Also it helps with the over all feel of the animation series in that they are all kind of dark and don't really have happy endings. I'm just trying to direct that idea.

About the Title "Introspection"

This is pretty self explanitory, it's a study of looking inward. I want the user to go in thinking about how this relates to their mental status. I also want them to look outward too, but the physical changes only hapen after your mental changes so that idea is more of an after thought.
